Comic-Inspired ‘Dark Phoenix’ Poster Shows Fight For Jean Grey

As of recent, Fox’s Marvel properties have slowly begun fully embracing the comic book-y nature of their works, or at least directly homaging them. Whether it’s the Jim Lee and Chris Claremont costumes shown at the end of X-Men Apocalypse, the X-Men comics shown in Logan, Polaris having a comic accurate headpiece in The Gifted, or even David Haller having his wacky comic book hair in Legion, to name a few. Dark Phoenix looks to continue in that tradition based on what we’ve seen so far.

In what looks to be a more Jean-centered story compared to X-Men: The Last Stand, the Frank Quitely costumes from the “New X-Men” comic series, and more time spent with the team, Dark Phoenix, as of now, looks to be the telling of the Dark Phoenix Saga that wasn’t told the way that director Simon Kinberg wanted with The Last Stand. We’ll find out when the film hits theaters next summer, but in the meantime, Comic-Con Brazil, or CCXP, is upon us now and we’ve got a new poster that’s very much inspired by the X-Men source material.

What do I mean by this? There’s a new poster for Dark Phoenix that could easily be seen as a comic book cover from the X-Men series, but this time we have Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey torn between two worlds, those two worlds being James McAvoy’s Professor X and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto. Here, have a look at the poster.

I’ll buy that for 15 cents. But in all seriousness, it does look very comic-inspired. It ultimately remains to be seen whether any new footage of Dark Phoenix or even The New Mutants will be shown at CCXP, but between the posters and displays, one can hope. What do you think of the comic-inspired for Dark Phoenix? And what’s been your thought on the next mainline X-Men film so far? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more Dark Phoenix updates in the weeks to come.

Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg and stars Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. The film is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019.
