‘Dark Phoenix’ Director Simon Kinberg Teases ‘Something’ New Is Coming Soon

The first trailer for 20 Century Fox’s next X-Men movie Dark Phoenix made its debut more than four months ago, but fans haven’t seen any new footage from the project since then. That should change soon, according to the film’s director, Simon Kinberg.

Dark Phoenix helmer Simon Kinberg teased that “something” new from the highly-anticipated X-Men movie is coming “real soon” while responding to comments about the trailer for Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone revival on CBS All Access, a project that he’s producing. It’s worth noting that the official Japanese Twitter account for Dark Phoenix recently shared a promo for the film, teasing that its next trailer would be dropping on February 28th. The teaser was deleted pretty quickly from the account, meaning that the information was probably shared prematurely at the time.

Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix could be Fox’s final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger looming on the horizon.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here’s the film’s synopsis:

“In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.”

Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
