You can check out the brand new photo of Sophie Turner as Jean Grey in Dark Phoenix down below:
Along with the release of this photo, Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg described what makes Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey so unique:
“It’s rare when a story has a character who inhabits both good and evil, who is both a hero and a villain,” Kinberg says. The tale is relatable “because we all know folks who have lost control,” but it’s also about the X-Men being challenged like never before. “Rather than the villain being somebody from outside, the villain is someone inside the family, and that’s also really shocking and provocative.”
Hopefully, Kinberg was able to succeed with Dark Phoenix as his directorial debut. Given his history as a writer in the X-Men film franchise, he seems to have a good grasp on the characters so perhaps he has succeeded with bringing the Dark Phoenix saga to life.
Are you excited to see how Dark Phoenix brings the iconic X-Men Dark Phoenix Saga story to life after the previous attempt in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand? Do you think Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is going to do the role justice now that Dark Phoenix is about to put Jean Grey front-and-center? Sound off in the comments below.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
Here’s the synopsis for Dark Phoenix:
“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”
Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
