Darker ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Alternate Ending Revealed

The original 'Assassin's Creed' ending has been revealed, and it was much darker than the version that made it into the final film.

Though Assassin’s Creed didn’t exactly light the world on fire and the possibility of a trilogy seems dubious, the sci-fi, action-adventure video game adaptation could have ended on a much different note. Thanks to Collider, we now have a glimpse of what that alternate ending could have looked like. Beware of some potential spoilers for the film.

Originally, Assassin’s Creed was made with the idea of a movie franchise in mind backed by star Michael Fassbender, and so the filmmakers wanted to leverage not just Fassbender but the other assassins they had introduced in later installments. After all, the assassins are supposed to be uniquely talented and not easy to take down, so living to see another day was certainly likely. However, the original ending of the film was much darker, and deadlier.

As you can see in the clip below, Callum (Fassbender) was the lone survivor of an escape attempt, as all of the other assassins fell at the hands of a group of security guards. Sounds a little underwhelming for a film about badass assassins, right? Well, it seems test audiences agreed, as director Justin Kurzel and editor Christopher Tellefsen explain.
