Check Out Unused Concept Art From Darren Aronofsky’s Batman: Year One

Long ago, Darren Aronofsky was going to direct a Batman: Year One movie and now his intriguing character designs have been revealed.

Darren Aronofsky has been an arthouse director for so long that many don’t think of him when it comes to superhero movies. That being said, he has been very close to helming not one, but two high-profile superhero movies. The first of his attempts pre-date Christopher Nolan’s 2005 reboot Batman Begins but feature a similarly gritty approach to the character.

Although Darren Aronofsky’s Batman: Year One film never saw the light of day, fans can finally see what the director’s version of the Dark Knight and his Batmobile were going to look like. Check out the unique concept art below.

Darren Aronofsky was also originally set to direct 2013’s The Wolverine but ended up leaving the project. James Mangold eventually boarded the project and went on to deliver fans not just that film, but the critical and financial hit Logan. For fans who aren’t into the concept art, Darren Aronofsky took to Twitter to assure fans that he himself did not create the designs.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding the DC Extended Universe as soon as more information becomes available. Are you a fan of the concept art? Do you think this movie should have been made? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

The next addition the DCEU is Shazam!, which hits theaters next month. Check out the synopsis for the film below:

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
