‘Suicide Squad’: David Ayer Shares BTS Look At Jay Hernandez As El Diablo

El Diablo's tattoos shine in this behind the scenes photo.

David Ayer has shared a behind the scenes look at Jay Hernandez who played El Diablo in Suicide Squad.

Despite its flaws and middling reception, there was a lot to love in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. One of the most memorable characters from Suicide Squad was El Diablo, who was played by Jay Hernandez. El Diablo’s backstory was extremely tragic and Hernandez gave a subtle, understated performance that made the character one of the film’s highlights. Throughout the film, El Diablo was reluctant to use his powers, making him a pacifist in a group filled with some of Gotham’s nastiest scum. It was slowly revealed that El Diablo’s misuse of his fire powers got his family killed, leaving him in a deep depression. Ultimately, the torutred character sacrificed himself so his newfound family could escape from the film’s villain.

Jay Hernandez’s character served as the perfect emotional backbone to a film that focused on highly irredeemable characters. Beyond how he complimented David Ayer’s story, Hernandez’s look as the tattooed El Diablo made him one of Suicide Squad‘s coolest looking characters. With each facet of his body glittered in tattoos, El Diablo was a walking mosaic with some of the coolest powers in the DC Extended Universe.

In a recent post on Twitter, David Ayer shared a behind-the-scenes look at Jay Hernandez as El Diablo. The image is relatively low-res but does a great job of showing off just how menacing El Diablo was in Suicide Squad. You can check it out below.
