David Ayer Reassures He Is Still Involved With ‘Gotham City Sirens’

David Ayer has taken to Twitter to respond to the recent rumor which suggests he is no longer directing the upcoming Harley Quinn-led spinoff Gotham City Sirens.

Ayer was announced last December to be directing the project but the film was absent from Warner Bros.’ upcoming slate of DCEU films this past weekend during the studio’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. Inside sources claim that Ayer will ultimately not remain attached to direct the project, however, Ayer’s reps denied this and assured that he is still on board as they revealed that the project is still in development as the script is still being written.

While Ayer has released a statement or made any comments regarding the rumor, his latest tweet is cryptic yet obvious enough that he is still involved with the spinoff. You can check it out below.

What helped to bolster the rumor Ayer was no longer going to be involved with Gotham City Sirens was when he seemed to take a shot at Warner Bros. for his experience with Suicide Squad. As the director praised Netflix which his behind his new film Bright this past weekend during the film’s panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, he explained that the streaming service got out of his way for him to make the movie he wanted to make saying the film “isn’t like, some bullshit standard issue studio PG-13 movie.” Suicide Squad being his only PG-13 movie to date.

While Ayer’s Suicide Squad certainly fell in line with the vision of the DCEU established by Zack Snyder, the recent rumor also suggests Snyder will have significantly decreased level of creative influence in the franchise going forward as Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, The Batman director Matt Reeves, and Joss Whedon who is at the helm for the Justice League reshoots will help guide the universe along with DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns going forward. But if Ayer’s latest tweet is a sign of things to come, it seems he still very much intends to direct Gotham City Sirens.
