‘Suicide Squad’ Director David Ayer Reveals Closest Version Of His Cut

The first film starring Task Force X was infamously changed in post-production.

David Ayer revealed which version of Suicide Squad is the closest to his original vision for the supervillain team-up movie.

It’s fair to say that David Ayer’s Suicide Squad wasn’t well-received following its theatrical debut back in 2016. The director had previously intended it to lead nicely into Justice League the following year, but it was recut by the studio after Deadpool‘s comedy proved to be an instant hit with audiences, which meant the film didn’t follow the director’s true vision for Task Force X. But most recently Ayer confirmed how fans can get a peek into what he intended for the team.

A fan on Twitter asked the director about the Suicide Squad novelization and if it featured anything resembling his cut of the film. David Ayer quickly confirmed that the book is the closest thing to the original story he wanted to to tell. The director has previously revealed other elements from his cut, such s El Diablo surviving the events of the film, explaining that the studio argued he needed to die due to his backstory. Take a look at the Suicide Squad director discussing the novelization below.

What do you make of the news about the Suicide Squad book? Would you like to see David Ayer’s Suicide Squad get a similar treatment to Zack Snyder’s Justice League? Sound-off in the comments below!

Here is the synopsis for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Written and directed by David Ayer, the film stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, and Scott Eastwood.

Suicide Squad is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
