Recently, director David Ayer has been more open than ever regarding his original cut of 2016’s Suicide Squad and the one that actually made it to the big screen. The film has plenty of fans who truly connect with the film’s cast and attitude, but many fans of the characters and comics felt that the story and characters were a bit unfocused. The overuse of pop music and animated titles to shortchange character depth was also something that didn’t work for many fans.
Ayer was recently asked via Twitter about his original cut of Suicide Squad, particularly whether or not his cut featured less music and more depth to the characters as individuals and as a very unconventional family. It was rumored for quite a while that Ayer was asked to beef up the pop soundtrack after Guardians of the Galaxy was a success but that was never officially confirmed. Check out the post below to see what Ayer had to say about the subject.
Even many DC fans who disliked Suicide Squad admit to feeling that the cast had a lot of potential and deserve another chance at the characters. Now that Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn has boarded Suicide Squad 2 as a writer, and possibly a director, it’s rumored that he may be rebooting the Squad, though it has not been confirmed just yet.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Suicide Squad and the upcoming sequel as soon as more information becomes available. What did you like/dislike about Suicide Squad? Are you happy that Gunn is now writing the sequel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
