‘Suicide Squad’ Director David Ayer Debunks Rumor About His Script

Suicide Squad director David Ayer debunked a rumor circling on Twitter that he was given two weeks to write the script for the DC film.

Director David Ayer’s recent openness about 2016’s Suicide Squad has led to plenty of online discussion about what went wrong with the supervillain team-up movie, with many fans pointing the finger at Warner Bros. for the faults in the film. The latest development comes soon after Ayer liked a tweet suggesting that an alternate finished version of the DC film exists. But it seems like fans are speculating a little too far about what went on behind-the-scenes.

A conversation between fans over the supposed mistreatment of the director with a strict script deadline caused Ayer to debunk the rumor. The conversation suggested that Ayer was given two weeks to write the script while one fan also said that the director should’ve realised it wasn’t going to go his way. The director quickly stepped in and discredited the idea, calling it “meme garbage.”

What do you think about the first Suicide Squad? Do you think Ayer should’ve had more control over the film? Sound off in the comments below!

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. However, James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the Suicide Squad in his upcoming movie.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
