David Harbour’s ‘Hellboy’ Reboot Was Reportedly Hell To Shoot

The early reviews for David Harbour’s Hellboy reboot are in and they anything but good. However, a recent report seems to indicate that this may have been due to a series of behind the scenes issues during the film’s production.

According to a report published by The Wrap, the film suffered from numerous problems in relation to its director, actors, and producers. The report states that it gained its information from numerous anonymous sources who had to keep their identity secret lest they risk their jobs. However, what was said paints a picture of a film production that tried to undercut its director at every given turn.

According to the report, longtime Neil Marshall cinematographer Sam McCurdy was fired by one of the film’s producers seemingly as a crude powerplay to remind the Hellboy director who was in charge. In addition, it is alleged that producer Lloyd Levin frequently interrupted rehearsals and tried to tell the actors to perform a different way.

It goes on to alleged extensive script rewrites by actors David Harbour and Ian McShane, the former of whom allegedly would only do so many takes for a scene before walking off set. Conflicts emerged as well over the design of an evil tree of all things as well. When asked about this, Harbour, McShane, and director Neil Marshall declined to comment on these stories but a lawyer for producers officially denied many of these stories or attempted to recontextualize many of them.

From the sound of things, even if some of these things are true it points to a film that was a nightmare to work on!

What do you all make of this report? Does it explain how Hellboy might have gone wrong if the critics are to be believed? What do you make of David Habour as the titular character? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
