David Leitch Of ‘John Wick’ To Direct ‘Deadpool 2’

It has been confirmed that 'John Wick' director David Leitch has taken over as the director for the upcoming X-Men spin-off sequel, 'Deadpool 2'.

It’s official: John Wick co-director David Leitch has been confirmed as the director for the upcoming Deadpool sequel. It’s been a tough road for the second film in the Deadpool franchise, as even after the massive success of the first film both director Tim Miller and composer Junkie XL have left the project.

Fans have been waiting for just under a month to find out who would be replacing Miller in the highly anticipated sequel from Fox and Marvel. We now know, according to the Hollywood Reporter, that David Leitch has closed a deal to helm the director’s seat for Deadpool 2.

Leitch’s name has been attached to the project as a potential replacement since only a few days after Miller announced parting ways. Other directors such as Rupert Sanders, Drew Goddard, and Magnus Martens were all a part of Fox studio’s “to-meet” list, so they were all contenders at one point or another. Ultimately, Leitch met with Reynolds in New York and was offered the job shortly thereafter.

Leitch has significant experience with the action film genre, co-directing John Wick, serving as an executive producer on John Wick 2, and possessing an impressive history as a stunt coordinator.

Also according to THR, the wheels are beginning to turn on Deadpool 3, and Fox is looking for a separate director to take on the third installment. It will be interesting to see the differences between the three director’s take on the same character. It is also worth wondering if Deadpool goes past three movies, will they continue to search for a new director for each film? That could turn into an interesting way to make each film in the franchise unique.

Do you think David Leitch is the right man for the job? Make sure to let us know your thoughts about Deadpool 2‘s newest addition down below in the comments!
