While speaking to IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, Leitch shared his excitement for the fantastic chemistry between Brolin and Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds. The director revealed that the sequel is allowing for them to expand upon the world established in the first film while still having fun with the characters. While the film is less than three weeks into production, Leitch said he couldn’t be happier with Brolin in the role so far:
“When he graciously agreed to do the role, Ryan and I were through the roof; we love him. He’s such a great actor, he brings a humanity to Cable, but he also has the depth of acting chops to hang with the comedy when needed. He’s bringing that character to life in the short 12 days we’ve been shooting and I couldn’t be happier.”
Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returned to script the sequel which is currently shooting in Vancouver. Production is expected to continue through September.
In addition to Brolin as Cable and Reynolds who returns for the sequel as the merc with the mouth. Zazie Beetz has joined the cast as Domino. Much of the cast from the first film is also expected to return including Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapcic as the voice of Colossus, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa and T.J. Miller as Weasel.
Deadpool 2 is currently slated to hit theaters June 1, 2018.
