DC Comics Officially Cuts Ties With Diamond Comic Distributors

DC Comics has officially cut ties with the comic distributing powerhouse, Diamond Comic Distributors.

Formed in 1982, Diamond Comic Distributors has been the single largest comic book distributor in the world. The company has for years been the sole distributor for comic book companies such as DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, and IDW Publishing, holding what some have considered a monopoly on the industry. Now, DC Comics has officially broken away from the distributing powerhouse.

DC Comics made the announcement earlier today in an email sent to retailers that explained the cut-off days and the ways they intended to make the transition smooth for retailers:

“In the near term, Diamond will only be fulfilling orders placed through June 1 Final Order Cut-Off and will not solicit the sale of new DC titles further. To ensure a smooth transition for retailers, DC will suspend Final Order Cut-Off for June 8, making those books available to order on Final Order Cut-Off on June 15.”

Diamond Comic Distributors had stopped shipments in march due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the comic book industry, much like every other entertainment industry was ground to a virtual halt. However, DC Comics almost immediately began looking for alternative ways to distribute its books which included digital sales and ways to cut the distribution titan out completely. Now it seems that whatever DC Comics and its parent companies were planning over the past few months has fully come to fruition.
