DC’s Standalone Flash Movie Pushes Production Start Date Back

Variety reports production on DC’s long-in-development standalone movie centered on The Flash is being pushed back to late 2019.

The film was expected to kick off production in March of next year, however, due to development of the script, the project will not be ready and with Ezra Miller scheduled to begin work on the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise in July, filming will likely not commence until late 2019. Both Miller and Kiersey Clemons are committed to star as the titular hero and his love interest Iris West in the film.

Last year, Game Night directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were tapped to direct the from a script written by King Arthur: Legend of the Sword scribe Joby Harold.

The film has changed directors several times as the duo replaced director Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) who exited the project over creative differences with the studio. Famuyiwa had been hired to replace Seth Grahame-Smith who penned the original script and also exited due to creative differences. Before that, The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were attached to direct. Lord and Miller had originally developed the story for the film, however, they left to work on Solo: A Star Wars Story for Lucasfilm.

A timetable for the project was never set in stone, however, the production was expected to be in tow following DC’s Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984, and Todd Phillips’ Joker movie which is currently filming in Newark, New Jersey.
