This news comes to us courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. The outlet spoke with Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, ahead of his appearance at tomorrow night’s Producers Guild Awards. When asked what the success of Aquaman means for the future of the DC Universe, Emmerich had this to say:
“We are far less focused on a shared universe. We take it one movie at a time. Each movie is its own equation and own creative entity.”
Emmerich also mentions that everyone at the company finally feels good about the position they are in and took the opportunity to reiterate that they are doing things differently from their beloved rivals:
“We all feel like we’ve turned a corner now. We’re playing by the DC playbook, which is very different than the Marvel playbook.”
It is comforting to hear one of the higher-ups at Warner Bros. speak with such confidence regarding future plans for the DC films. Their first batch of films under lead visionary Zack Snyder did not do well with critics and arguably never reached their full box office potential. Now with fans and studio executives riding the wave of Aquaman‘s accomplishments, all we can do now is wait and see how their plan works out.
What do you think about what Emmerich had to say? Are you excited by the prospect of DC focusing on each film at a time? Hit us up in the comments below to share your thoughts!
