In 1988, fans were asked to decide whether or not Batman’s sidekick Jason Todd should die at the hands of the Joker and now the DC Universe site has recreated the iconic poll.
Fans of Batman know that one of the most iconic deaths in his huge library of stories belongs to Jason Todd, a.k.a. Robin, in the book Batman: A Death in the Family. The decision wasn’t made so easily, though. In 1988, fans were asked to call one of two numbers to vote on whether or not the Joker should kill Jason Todd. The poll resulted in the death of Batman’s boy wonder but fans may also remember that it was this moment that would result in the iconic Batman: Under the Hood comic arc, leading to the creation of Red Hood and eventually leading to the fan-favorite animated film Under the Red Hood.
30 years later, the DC Universe website has decided to resurrect the poll to see whether or not fans today would be willing to let Jason Todd die again. The poll seems to simply be for fun and won’t have any effect on the current TV shows, comics or movies. Check out the poll at the DC Universe website here and as you can see, the two buttons even have the phone numbers on them that were originally used by fans to cast their vote back in ’88. Though many fans may want to see a different fate for Batman’s sidekick, if it weren’t for that vote, then some iconic Batman stories would have gone untold, or at least altered, such as Hush, Under the Hood, and the video game Batman: Arkham Knight.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Batman and the DC Universe streaming service as soon as more information becomes available. Would you like to see a world where Jason Todd lived, or would you rather history remained the same so Red Hood could live on instead? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
