‘Deadpool 2’ Director David Leitch On Domino’s Powers In The Film

Just yesterday we got our first look at Atlanta star Zazie Beetz as Domino in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming sequel Deadpool 2 and now today we are learning a little more about how the film will explore the mutant’s abilities. In the comics, Domino has the ability to manipulate probability in her favor, essentially appearing as if she has extremely good luck, but how do you portray that on the big screen?

In an interview with Cinema Blend, director David Leitch spoke a bit about how they will be tackling Domino’s powers in the film:

“We’re having fun with her power, because when you really distill it — the laws of probability… So I think there’s a lot of ways to go with it, and I think we have some really cool visual ideas of how we can demonstrate that. And then also there’s the Deadpool tone of how you can be self-referential to all powers. So it’s going to be fun.”

Leitch also spoke about what made Beetz the right fit for the role of Domino:

“Speaking of Zazie [Beetz] in particular, we had of people come in and audition, and there was something about her that was undeniable. Ryan was having a ball with the casting as well, and we looked at each other and we knew that we’d found her — after their camera test it was perfect. There is great chemistry.”

Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Nathan Summers/Cable, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Shioli Kutsuna, Julian Dennison and Jack Kesy as the film’s villain (rumored to be Black Tom Cassidy).

Deadpool 2 is slated to hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
