SPOILERS: ‘Deadpool 2’ Writers Confirm Post-Credits Scenes Are Canon

In a recent Q&A on Reddit, the writers for Deadpool 2 confirmed that the scenes featured during the credits of the film are in fact canon.

The fun did not stop once the credits rolled on the highly anticipated Deadpool sequel. Negasonic Teenage Warhead fixed Cable’s time-traveling device and Wade saw this as an opportunity. The Merc with a Mouth would not only fix some issues that came up during the film but also some past failures in other superhero films. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese were answering all kinds of questions from fans on Reddit and were asked if the after credits events were canon.

“Yes, the after credit scene is CANON. Don’t expect that device to stick around beyond this movie, though!”

So Wade Wilson’s antics through time are not just for comic relief. Deadpool ventured across space and time to kill Ryan Reynolds to save the world from 2011’s Green Lantern film. Then he made sure to rid the X-Men universe of his ridiculous doppelganger from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. One of the more important things the Merc with a Mouth accomplished was saving the love of his life, Vanessa. Now there is a chance fans will get to see a bunch of little Deapools breaking the fourth wall in diapers at some point down the line.

So even though Deadpool now has a time machine and what he would consider just lazy writing is not something that will be a frequent part of the Deadpool universe. Reese and Wernick confirm Wilson’s time-traveling days are most likely over and will continue to attempt to impress the Marvel hero on their next script. Regardless of Deadpool’s opinion, the writers have done a great job in bringing the Deadpool sequel to life and outdoing all of fans’ expectations.
