The writers spoke to Screenrant about their upcoming projects. When asked about X-Force and Deadpool 3, Reese said the X-Force film was definitely coming first and after it, the third Deadpool installment would come along. He confirmed that Drew Goddard (The Cabin In The Woods, Bad Times At The El Royale) was working on the X-Force film and that they’re waiting for that it to come into fruition to start developing Deadpool 3.
“According to the chronology that we’ve established, X-Force will be next, before Deadpool 3. It’s a bit of the “Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3″ model, in that sense. X-Force isn’t being written by us. It’s being written and directed by Drew Goddard, or at least that’s the plan right now. We’re not involved with that one. We do anticipate there will be a Deadpool 3 at some point, but it’s just a little premature because it will definitely take a backseat to X-Force for the time being.”
Wernick also spoke about exchanging ideas constantly with Ryan Reynolds so they can be ready when the time comes:
“We’re constantly in touch with Ryan (Reynolds), and we’re always throwing ideas back and forth via text and phone conversations. So, it’s always at the front of our minds. We’ll get there when the time is right, but as of right now, X-Force is next up.”
These statements by Reese and Wernick come as a surprise after a lot of speculation about FOX canceling every Marvel related project coming after New Mutants had been flying around, due to the incoming FOX/Disney deal closing probably before the first semester of 2019. Nevertheless, Reese, Wernick, Goddard, and Reyndols seem to be working on ideas for those two films disregarding which studio does them; a future pitch for Marvel Studios and Disney perhaps?
