Deadpool and Cable creator Rob Liefeld on Josh Brolin landing the role as Cable, calls the casting "a home run any way you cut it."
In an interview with THR’s Heat Vision, Liefeld shared his thoughts on the casting of Brolin as Cable:
“Josh Brolin is a home run any way you cut it. I have never seen a casting derby like the derby there was for Cable. That was like every race I’d ever seen combined into one. Everybody who was 38-65 made sure they put their name in there, and you have no idea some of the names that you didn’t hear!”
When Brolin was announced, Liefeld shared a sketch he did of the actor as Cable on his Instagram:
The creator also spoke with THR about how nervous he was during the casting process:
“Did I sweat that the wrong guy would get cast? Yes, 100 percent. That kept me up at night, but the planets aligned, everything worked out and I love seeing these videos of Josh pumping those guns.”
The film will be directed by David Leitch based on a script from original Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Drew Goddard. Brolin joins Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool and another series newcomer Zazie Beetz as Domino. Much of the cast from the first film is expected to return as well, including Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapcic as the voice of Colossus, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Karan Soni as Dopinder and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al.
Deadpool 2 opens in theaters on June 1, 2018.
