Josh Brolin came out of nowhere to snag the role of Cable in the upcoming 'Deadpool 2' and creator Rob Liefeld explains why Brolin was the perfect choice.
Josh Brolin, perhaps better known as the current Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, came way out of left field to snag the role and since then has made a huge physical transformation. And though Brolin may have seemed like an odd choice at the time, Deadpool/Cable creator Rob Liefeld spoke to ComicBook.com recently on why Brolin is the perfect fit and how it only furthers the trend of Fox reeling in big names.
“It’s continuing the tradition, in the film, of really great actors,” Liefeld said. “If you only see No Country for Old Men and Sicario, you’ve seen two great, totally separate, Josh Brolin performances. You’ve got Llewelyn, who’s sullen but determined, and he doesn’t speak much, but you follow him the whole time in No Country. And then, Sicario, he’s this wild, shoot ’em up, C.I.A. guy. The guy is a tremendous actor.”
It isn’t just Brolin’s on-screen talent that has earned the praise of Liefeld either. Certainly no stranger to depicting muscle-bound heroes on the page, the longtime artist/writer also spoke to how Brolin has changed his body to fit the character of Cable. Liefeld said he’d even like to give Brolin’s training regiment a try at some point down the rode, he was so impressed.
“He’s such a great actor, that’s where it starts. Who else, really, is gonna hold their ground with Ryan [Reynolds]?” Liefeld said. “I mean, that is…energy unbridled. When I see the two of them together, I think it’s going to be the comic book equivalent of Rush Hour. I don’t know if comic fans are ready for it.”
Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Nathan Summers/Cable, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Shioli Kutsuna, Julian Dennison and Jack Kesy as the film’s villain
Deadpool 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
