Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Boards New GI Joe Snake Eyes Comic

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld is set to write and illustrate a new GI Joe comic book for IDW and Hasbro centered on Snake Eyes.

Rob Liefeld is best known for his creation of Deadpool and Cable for Marvel Comic back in the 90s. However, Rob Liefeld and other notable Marvel Comics artists also famously left the company to form Image Comics. Rob Liefeld continues to create today and recently finished the X-Men storyline, Major X.

Ahead of San Diego Comic Con this week, Rob Liefeld’s next project has now been revealed, as he will tackle the legendary GI Joe character, Snake Eyes. The new IDW comic book series will be titled,  Snake Eyes: Deadgame, and will be released sometime in 2020. Rob Liefeld shared his excitement for the upcoming series in a statement:

“Two words: ‘BUCKET LIST.’One more word: ‘ICON.’ Snake Eyes is Wolverine, Deadpool, and Spider Man rolled into one amazing character for an entire generation of fans that thrilled to his adventures in comics and cartoons and hung on his every toy release! My parents drove me all over the county to get me G.I. Joe action figures as a kid. These were my first and most favorite toys. Working with Hasbro and all my friends at IDW has been a blast so far. I can’t wait to get this work out into the public! If you enjoyed my recent Marvel work, this will match or exceed it!”

IDW’s President & Publisher/Chief Creative Officer Chris Ryall also said the following about the upcoming Snake Eye series:

“The high-octane, adrenaline-fueled action and adventure Rob brings to every comic he creates is a perfect fit for Snake Eyes, and we’re all as excited as you are to see him really cut loose on the pages of this very special G.I. JOE series!”

The new comic book series isn’t the only Snake Eyes project in the works. Red director Robert Schwentke and writer Evan Spiliotopoulos are currently developing a GI Joe spin-off film focused on Snake Eyes for Paramount Pictures.
