Today, fans and advertisers are being given a preview of what The CW has in store for the next television season at the network’s Upfronts presentation. During the event, network president Mark Pedowitz announced an animated Deathstroke series is being developed for the CW seed streaming platform. Unfortunately, no further details on the Deathstroke series were provided.
Actor Manu Bennett portrayed Deathstroke in mutiple episodes of The CW’s Arrow, though whether or not this new animated series is connected to this version of the character remains to be seen.
Deathstroke has appeared in various films and television shows throughout the character’s history, with Joe Manganiello being the most recent actor to portray the DC Comics assassin in a live-action feature film. Having made a brief appearance in the post-credits scene of Justice League, Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke was set to be the main antagonist of Ben Affleck’s Batman movie before the latter actor dropped out and Matt Reeves’ took the story in a new direction after assuming directorial duties. A standalone Deathstroke film was announced, though there hasn’t been movement on the project.
Deathstroke will next appear on DC Universe’s second season of Titans, with Esai Morales portraying the iconic DC Comics character.
Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Richard “Dick” Grayson / Robin, Anna Diop as Koriand’r / Starfire, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth / Raven, and Ryan Potter as Garfield “Gar” Logan / Beast Boy. The series is also making a few additions for its sophomore outing, with Joshua Orpin and Esai Morales playing Superboy and Deathstroke, respectively. Chella Man and Chelsea T. Zhang have also joined Titans as Deathstroke’s children. Furthermore, Game of Thrones star Iain Glen is set to play Bruce Wayne, a.k.a. Batman.
Titans is now available exclusively on DC Universe in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
