It’s been over a year since we’ve heard any updates about Deathstroke, but Evans is currently promoting his new Netflix film, Apostle. Evans was asked about the status of Deathstroke by Inverse, and had this to say in regards to the current state of the project:
“I went off to make Apostle and didn’t hear anything since then. It’s been a good, good, good while since I’ve had any conversations about that project. I don’t know what’s gonna happen, or when, with me or without me.”
Given the critical and commercial response to Justice League, the fact that Evans hasn’t heard much about Deathstroke isn’t that big of a surprise. For one, Warner Bros. and DC Films are currently focused on their upcoming slate of films that are either in production or post.
Let’s hope that Evans and Manganiello are able to get their standalone Deathstroke movie off the ground sooner rather than later.
DC Films has an upcoming slate that consists of Aquaman, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984 and Joker. Films that are also in development and expected to hit theaters within the next few years include Birds of Prey, The Batman and The Flash.
What do you make of Evans’ comments about Deathstroke? Will Warner Bros. give the director a call about giving the film a potential greenlight? Will we finally see Joe Manganiello in action as Slade Wilson beyond just a quick cameo appearance teasing the formation of the Legion of Doom? Will we ever get to see the DCEU’s take on the Legion of Doom including Deathstroke?
