‘Detective Pikachu’ TV Spot Shows Ryan Reynolds’ Titular Pokemon In Action

Ryan Reynolds has shared a new TV spot for his upcoming film Detective Pikachu, featuring new footage and a reference to the Pokemon anime television series.

Usually, films surprise audiences’ expectations when they are released in theaters, but Detective Pikachu managed to do so just with its first trailer. Earlier today, Ryan Reynolds took to social media to share a new spot for Detective Pikachu featuring a new footage of Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton and Ryan Reynolds’ titular Pokemon. You can check out the TV spot below.

Along with a funny scene featuring the film’s main characters, there is also a new look at the parade sequence where Ryan Reynolds’ Pikachu uses his electrical abilities as he hops from one float to another. At the end of the spot, there is a scene that shows Ryan Reynolds’ Pikachu stand on Tim Goodman’s shoulder, something that’s often seen with Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu in the Pokemon television series.

What do you think of this new spot for Detective Pikachu? Are you looking forward to seeing Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu? Share your thoughts below!

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming Detective Pikachu:

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Directed by Rob Letterman from a script co-written with Nicole Perlman, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular pocket monster, Justice Smith as Tim, Kathryn Newton as Lucy, and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu will be released in theaters on May 10, 2019.
