New ‘Detective Pikachu’ Promo Gives Heartwarming Look At Pokemon World

The world is waiting with baited breath for Marvel Studios to finally release Avengers: Endgame to the masses this week, but come two weeks time, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu will be the center of attention at cinemas worldwide. After the release of the first trailer back in November, audiences were caught by surprise when their first look at the first live-action adaptation of the global phenomenon was as endearing as it was quirky, topped off with Ryan Reynolds’ peculiar, yet humorous voice performance coming out of Pikachu’s mouth.

Now, we have yet another look at the highly-anticipated film courtesy of Reynolds himself. Here, we see a more heartwarming glimpse into what everyday life is like in the Pokemon world. We are obviously centered on our dynamic duo of Detective Pikachu and our human protagonist Tim (Justice Smith) as they venture on their journey to find Tim’s missing father.

Set to the tune of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”, viewers are given a tender vibe mixed in with the zany, colorful nature of Ryme City within the Pokemon world. It’s easy to get lost in the wave of emotion with Armstrong’s iconic song in the background, but it is also pretty chuckle-worthy to hear some vocals from Psyduck. Also, how can you heart not melt with that last moment between Detective Pikachu and Tim?

What do you make of this heartwarming promo? Are you excited to see how the Pokemon world is brought to life in live-action? Sound off in the comments below, and be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news following Pokemon: Detective Pikachu.

Here is the synopsis for Pokemon: Detective Pikachu:

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Directed by Rob Letterman from a script he co-wrote with Dan Hernandez & Benji Samit, Derek Connolly, and Nicole Perlman, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular pocket monster, Justice Smith as Tim, Kathryn Newton as Lucy, and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida.
