Ryan Reynolds posted the short Detective Pikachu featurette on his Twitter. In it, Reynolds discloses humorous anecdotes about the lengths he went to in order to psyche himself into the mind of the iconic yellow rat during production. Some methods include, but are not limited to: reading about Detective Pikachu, living at his height and losing 182 pounds to match his weight.
The Ryan Reynolds interview is split up by short beats featuring his wife, Blake Lively, who mentions what a nightmare it has been for her and their daughters to try to live with Ryan during the making of the upcoming Pokemon project.

As amusing as the featurette is (and it is), the whole point, as Ryan says in his tweet, a new trailer for the film is dropping tomorrow. Until then this featurette will hold us over nicely.

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
Directed by Rob Letterman from a script co-written with Nicole Perlman, the film stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular pocket monster, Justice Smith as Tim, Kathryn Newton as Lucy, and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida.
Detective Pikachu will be released in theaters on May 10, 2019.
