Did Mads Mikkelsen Just Reveal His ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Role?

It seems like we now might have a hint as to the character Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen will be playing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

With production on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story still underway in London, we know very little about the Gareth Edwards-directed anthology film set to drop late next year, but it seems like we now might have a hint as to the character Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen will be playing.

At Fan Expo in Toronto this past weekend, Mads Mikkelsensigned a fan’s poster with the name “Galen.” Those familiar with the Star Wars video games might be inclined to assume that the role is in fact Galen Marek, Darth Vader’s apprentice and the main character in The Force Unleashed, but that’s likely not the case. Everything we know about Rogue One so far indicates that there won’t be any Jedi involved in the plot to steal the plans to the Death Star.

Anything is possible, but I’d bet that the name is just a nod to the fan-favorite character rather than a sign that he will actually become a part of the Star Wars cinematic universe. Mads Mikkelsen could also just have been told by the folks at Lucasfilm to refer to his character as “Galen” for now in an effort to throw people off and fuel more discussion, speculation, and anticipation for the future of Star Wars… which definitely seems to be working (just not for C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels, who has apparently had enough of the shenanigans and secrecy around everything Star Wars).

All we know for sure is that Mads Mikkelsen’s character will not be a villain but will play a “very important” role, and that we are dying to know more about it. You can see the photo of the autograph in question over at Jedi News.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens on December 16, 2016.
