‘Blade Runner 2049’ Director Comments On Deckard-Replicant Question

The mystery of Duckard being a replicant will be revisited in 'Blade Runner 2049' although original director Ridley Scott answered the question years ago.

Ever since the original Blade Runner was released, there has been a looming mystery over the film – was the main character, Rick Deckard, himself a replicant? A scene was added to the director’s cut of the film that seemed to hint towards an answer to this question, but nothing had been firmly stated until director Ridley Scott confirmed once and for all he was in fact a replicant.

The sequel to Bade Runner, Blade Runner 2049 is coming out in 2017, and although the original director has answered the Deckard-Replicant question definitively, the new film’s director wishes to leave it as more of an open-ended question.

Denis Villeneuve, director of 2049, spoke to the French film site Allocine, which was eventually translated to English by The Playlist. In the interview, Villeneuve made it clear that although Ridley thought he put the subject to rest, 2049’s inclusion of Harrison Ford is not any sort of confirmation that Deckard isn’t a replicant. Villeneuve wishes to keep the mystery alive for the new film, because he believes it’s important to keep the tension in the film.

Although Ridley Scott confirmed that Deckard was in fact a replicant, do you want to see the mystery revisited in the new Blade Runner? Make sure to let us know what you think below in the comments.

Blade Runner 2049 is set to be released everywhere on October 6th, 2017.

Jack of some trades, master of some others. That saying never really made a lot of sense to me.
