Disney announced its plans to buy 21st Century Fox assets all the way back in December 2017 and the merger between the two companies is now almost complete. On Tuesday, Disney revealed that its $71.3 billion buyout of most of Fox’s entertainment assets should officially close on Wednesday, March 20, with the acquisition “expected to become effective at 12:02 a.m. Eastern Time” on that day.
The deal would bring together Fox franchises like X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avatar and The Simpsons with Disney’s Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar properties. For now, Fox’s X-Men cinematic universe continues with the release of Dark Phoenix this June while the next Marvel Studios movie is next month’s Avengers: Endgame.
What do you think about Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox? Does it give Disney too much power in the industry? Or are you just excited to see the Avengers share the screen with the X-Men and Fantastic Four? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
The next big Marvel release is Avengers: Endgame, hitting theaters on April 26, 2019. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Endgame is expected to star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner, Brie Larson, Josh Brolin and Chris Pratt.
“A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
