The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Disney has hired Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Alan Tudyk to voice Jafar’s sidekick Iago in its upcoming Aladdin remake. Iago was voiced by Gilbert Gottfried in the 1992 animated Aladdin movie and its direct-to-video sequels.
Sherlock Holmes and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword helmer Guy Ritchie is directing this new take on Aladdin. He also co-wrote the script with John August, the scribe behind several Tim Burton movies such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride.
Alan Tudyk joins a cast that includes Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as titular character, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders and Numan Acar as Hakim. Disney dropped a new trailer for the movie on Tuesday, but its previews have yet to reveal Alan Tudyk’s take on Iago.
