Avatar 4 And 5 Might Not Actually Be Happening

While some in geekdom prefer to look at the Disney/Fox acquisition purely for what it means for Marvel-related properties, other franchises could be in jeopardy under the House of Mouse. Case in point, James Cameron’s Avatar franchise.

Come this December, it will have been 10 years since the first Avatar film hit theaters. And while James Cameron has completed work on the second and third installments, the status on Avatar 4 and 5 remain up in the air. More to the point, the status of those films would depend on what Disney decides to do with the series. In addition, while Avatar 2 and 3 appear to be certain, it’s reported that Fox wanted to wait and see the box office results before giving the go-ahead to the fourth and fifth installments in the series.

Admittedly, this could still work in James Cameron’s favor, as the “Pandora- World of Avatar” theme park is already a part of Walt Disney Studios. Between how much money the first Avatar made at the box office and the fact that the House of Mouse loves money, it’s entirely possible that Disney could give James Cameron the green light for the continuation of his Avatar franchise. But like many things involved with the Disney/Fox merger, it’s all a matter of just waiting and seeing what continues and what gets chucked to the side.
