Disney bought Fox last year for $71.3 billion and the massive deal between the two companies looks to be closing very soon. It was previously reported the Disney-Fox deal would close at the start of the new year, but according to NBC News, executives are now expecting the deal to close in the final week of January. With the acquisition of Fox, Disney will also own 60 percent of Hulu. Disney is also launching the Disney+ streaming service next year with original content like The Mandalorian and the Loki series alongside the catalog of films and shows currently available on Netflix.
The deal would bring together Fox franchises including X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avatar, and The Simpsons with Disney’s Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar properties. But for now, the X-Men cinematic universe at Fox continues with Dark Phoenix next year.

Directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
Dark Phoenix will be released in theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the deal between Disney and Fox.
