Disney And Fox Merger Hits Roadblock In North America

In a recent report, the Disney buyout of Fox was placed under a more critical eye as reporters in Mexico question what the merger might mean for people of the country.

In the report, it was revealed that the planned merger would result in Disney controlling nearly 30% of all television in the country. This is almost double what its competitors have with Warner Bros controlling a reported 15.12% of the market, Columbia and Sony Pictures with their 12.10 and Universal with its 11.85. Should the merger go through, the entertainment company would have a massive leg up on its rivals and possibly set the groundwork for a monopoly in that country.

More disconcertingly the article also stated that once the merger goes through, customers in the country could be looking to pay as much as 20% more for their services. This was according to unnamed sources that are close to both companies which still operate separately. The article itself also called for heavier regulations of the deal so this thing does not happen.

The news of the Disney/Fox merger officially in December of 2017 when Disney made an offer to buy the company after months of rumors. The initial offer was for $52.4B. The acquisition then hit a roadblock when Comcast attempted to top the offer in June of 2018 with $65B proposal. Disney then topped this with a $71.3B offer which caused Comcast to back down. But from the look of things, the merger may have one final hurdle to get over.

What do you all make of the merger between Disney and Fox? Is it a good thing? Is it bad? Should a single company be allowed to have as much power as Disney is about to obtain? Is it worth it so that we might see the Fantastic Four and the X-Men fight alongside The Avengers? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Disney/Fox merger is expected to close on January 1, 2019.
