Here’s How Many Movies & TV Series Disney+ Has In Development

A new report revealed Disney’s massive plans for the original content coming to their upcoming streaming service.

Disney is putting a lot of money into their upcoming streaming service and using all of their assets to compete with Netflix. Disney CEO Bob Iger has said in the past, Disney+ will not cost as much as Netlix due to the amount of content. However, plenty of projects are being developed from Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios for Disney+. Disney is also obtaining Fox assets soon as well, so even more brands will be added to the upcoming streaming services’ roster down the line. Analysts revealed in a Deadline report how many projects are in development for Disney+:

“There may be as many as 18 films and 16 TV series in some form of development for [Disney+], plus we expect some licensed content to be purchased or repurchased from other outlets as Disney looks to fill in programming gaps prior to the service’s launch later this year.”

One of the biggest draws to Disney+ is the first ever live-action Star Wars series, here is the synopsis:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.

Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones episode director Deborah Chow.

The Mandalorian will be available exclusively on Disney+ in 2019.
