Disney Has Officially Recouped Its $4 Billion Dollar ‘Star Wars’ Purchase

According to CNBC, Disney has recouped its entire $4 Billion investment into Lucasfilm thanks to the success of the Star Wars movies they have released.

Six years ago, Mickey Mouse decided it was time to travel to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Disney purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012 for $4.05 Billion. Films such as The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The Last Jedi, and Solo have accumulated a total of $4.85 billion. Disney has also made large profits off of their licensing agreements as well as merchandise, toys, and apparel. The senior media analyst for comScore Paul Dergarabedian told CNBC about his thoughts on the big time purchase.

“This was one of the smartest acquisitions in history.”

There is no question that the mouse has taken Star Wars to a whole new level and resurrected the franchise for future generations to enjoy. They also show no signs of slowing down. They are going very big on the first live-action series called The Mandalorian. And when it comes to the movies, J.J. Abrams is back at the helm to close out the Skywalker saga with Episode IX. Thanks to the savvy business moves of Disney, fans everywhere will never go without a Star Wars film again.

Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams. Carrie Fisher will appear as General Leia Organa through the use of previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. 

Episode IX will be released in theaters on December 19, 2019.
