‘Doctor Strange’ Concept Art Sees Benedict Cumberbatch In Comic-Accurate Look

New concept art from Doctor Strange shows off Benedict Cumberbatch with a comic-accurate design in his astral form.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Doctor Strange brilliantly adapted his costume from the comics, new concept art pictures his look with the comic-accurate design. The concept art shows Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme in his astral form, presumably in the Sanctum Sanctorum on 177A Bleecker Street, but it’s not clear. It’s scenes like the astral form fights that prove Marvel can handle the mysticism and magic alongside blockbuster action.

The concept art was revealed by Ryan Meinerding, the Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, who frequently posts art on his Instagram from movies set in the MCU. This beautiful art shows Benedict Cumberbatch floating in Stephen Strange’s astral form, wearing the csotume from the comic that uses spells weaved into it to help him defend the world from the horrors of the multiverse. It’ll be interesting to see whether the Sorcerer Supreme will get a new look for the horrific sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Details on Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are currently limited, though it is said to be Marvel Studios’ first true foray into the horror genre. Furthermore, the Disney Plus mini-series WandaVision will also serve as the lead-in to the Doctor Strange sequel.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features a script written by Jade Bartlett and will star Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, and Elizabeth Olsen. The film will be director by horror legend Sam Raimi.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2021.
