Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor StrangeDoctor Strange had quite the opening weekend at the box office. In its first three days, the film earned $85 million at the domestic box office. The film’s success both financially and critically is yet another example of why Marvel is doing so well in the business – which is why lesser-known properties are good bets for the studio to make movies out of.

As of today, the Scott Derrickson-directed film will cross the $100 million U.S. mark. The 14th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has also earned $240.7 million at the international box office, and culminates to $339.6 million worldwide.

The film is also expected to be #1 at the box office for the second weekend in a row, beating out Paramount Pictures’ newest film, Arrival which stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. How long do you think Doctor Strange will dominate the box office? I have a feeling another film involving magic may take it down very soon…

Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

Doctor Strange is in theaters now.
