Dormammu is one of Doctor Strange’s greatest villains and he made an appearance towards the end of his first solo outing. In Doctor Strange, Dormammu was actually voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch and had a different live-action look compared to his comic book appearance.
Doctor Strange would eventually defeat Dormammu by using the Eye of Agamotto and it’s unclear if he will return in The Multiverse of Madness. Recently, Marvel Studios’ Jerad S. Marantz shared concept art from the first film that looks very different from what we eventually got. The alternate look is more humanistic and definitely bears a strong resemblance to an adult Groot. Marantz had this to say about the scrapped Dormammu design:
“Here’s an old #dormamu option I did for Doctor Strange back in the day. Always liked this version. At this point we were playing around with more human options. Really fun show.”
