‘Doctor Strange’: Early Look For Dormammu’s Zealots Revealed

This early look for Dormammu's zealots makes it look like they're part of a biker gang than a mystical religious order.

An early look for Dormammu’s zealots from Doctor Strange has been revealed.

Doctor Strange sent the Marvel Cinematic Universe into psychedelia, introducing audience members to some of the ancient, celestial powers that formed the universe. Alongside further expanding the lore of the shared universe, the film also introduced general audiences to Dormammu, one of the MCU’s most memorable villains. Despite having little screen time, Dormammu is best remembered for his stand off against Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, where both were stuck in a time loop.

While Dormammu stole the show in Doctor Strange, it was his zealots and Kaecilius who enacted the celestial being’s plan. In the film, Kaecilius and the zealots wore suits that echoed the outfits of Tibetan monks. However, the early design for Dormammu’s zealots saw them rocking outfits that were Gothic in nature.

The zealot seen above looks radically different than the one seen in Doctor Strange. For one, it looks more as if this zealot is a follower of Morbius, not Dormammu. From the red-lined hood to the overall Gothic/biker nature of the costume, it paints a completely different picture than what we saw on screen. It’s definitely a drastic departure from the one seen in the film but it works in the context that the zealots no longer subscribe to the Ancient One’s philosophy. We can only imagine how awesome Kaecilius looked in a costume like this one.

What are your thoughts on this early design for Dormammu’s zealot? Sound off in the comments and let us know!
