Marvel's Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong talk about Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War.
First up, Cumberbatch spoke about the scene where The Ancient One (played by Tilda Swinton) first introduces Stephen Strange to the greater multiverse:
“I think pretty much all of the sequence where she opens his mind to the multiverse, I found that profoundly moving. That’s a hell of a task to set the visual effects department and for my money, they achieved it and it became more than just a ‘wham, bam, thank you ma’am’ distraction or embelishment in the film. It became something profound in its own right. It’s incredibly trippy and funny and weird, but also really moving.”
Cumberbatch then spoke a little bit about the post-credit scene with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and took an opportunity to tease his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok:
“Chris is lovely and it’s a great character. It was a great interaction and there might be a little bit more to see in Thor [Ragnarok]. But yeah, that’s all I’m gonna say.”
While Wong was hesitant to confirm whether or not he would be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, he did speak “hypothetically” about which character he would like to share the screen with:
“Well, you know, I mean, being a Spider-Man fan, I’d like Wong and the web-slinger. That’d be quite cool. I collected Spider-Man comics growing up as a kid and I’m a big kid now, and to be sort of invited into a Marvel film and to be a real part of this, it’s been a real dream.”
Cumberbatch also spoke about his being “replaced” by a stand-in for certain scenes of Infinity War because of his budy schedule:
“Yeah, I think it’s a bit of an exaggeration. I mean, listen, there’s a great deal that can be done in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and any comic universe. Whether it’s hiding a pregnancy to having someone there who’s on another side of the world, but there’s only so much they can do without you. And so, yeah, I’ll be there. Don’t worry.”
He went on to talk about not envying the people who have to put together the schedule for the massive Infinity War film before adding, “but you know, I’ve got a script and I’ve been reading it, and it’s very, very good fun.”
Marvel’s Doctor Strange is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD. Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3, 2017. Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a May 4, 2018 release.
