‘Doctor Strange’ Writer Addresses Scott Derrickson Exiting The Sequel

Doctor Strange co-writer C. Robert Cargill addressed Scott Derrickson’s departure from the upcoming sequel.

Yesterday, many fans were stunned by news of director Scott Derrickson stepping out of the director’s chair for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The reason for Scott Derrickson’s departure was attributed to “creative differences” and now writer C. Robert Cargill has addressed the filmmaker’s exit on his official Twitter account.

Cargill, who co-wrote the first Doctor Strange film with Scott Derrickson, used humor to address t his friend’s departure from the sequel, jokingly stating that it was going to be a quiet night on social media shortly after news of the shakeup broke. In a follow-up post, Cargill joked about his next project with Scott Derrickson being a sequel to critically lambasted feature film adaptation of the musical Cats.

Details on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are currently limited, though it is said to be Marvel Studios’ first true foray into the horror genre. Furthermore, the Disney Plus mini-series WandaVision will also serve as the lead-in to the Doctor Strange sequel.

Scott Derrickson is still attached to the sequel as an executive producer and the search for a new director to realize the script written by Jade Bartlett is underway. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Elizabeth Olsen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2021.
