Does 'Doctor Strange' tease Captain Marvel? Director and co-writer Scott Derrickson weighs in on possible Easter eggs in the movie.
If you haven’t yet seen the Doctor Strange film, beware of spoilers below.
Recently, director and co-writer Scott Derrickson teased a possible Captain Marvel link within the MCU. The Easter egg in question appears near the beginning of Doctor Strange, right before the doctor loses control of his car. Strange is going through several patient histories and deciding whether or not to take on their cases.
That’s when he comes across a patient who’s been struck by lightning. Is this a reference to Captain Marvel? Not necessarily, because being struck by lightning isn’t Captain Marvel’s origin story in the comics, but it could definitely be the case here given that her origin story will be changed for the movie.
What’s most intriguing isn’t even the fact that the woman is struck by lightning, but the fact that she has an implant in her brain. When Derrickson was asked whether or not that Doctor Strange scene was teasing Captain Marvel, he only had this to say:
“Remember that Brittany Murphy movie where she goes ‘I’ll never tell…’”
So he’s not denying or confirming anything. But since he’s not denying it then I’d bet that it was, in fact, an Easter egg for the upcoming movie.
Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson as the title superhero. The movie, unfortunately, won’t be out until 2019.
