‘Doom Patrol’ Star Diane Guerrero Says She Resumed Therapy During Season 2

Doom Patrol star Diane Guerrero opened up about returning to therapy while filming the second season of the HBO Max series.

Fans fell in love with Diane Guerrero in Doom Patrol as Crazy Jane, who houses 64 different personalities inside her all with their own unique powers. But when speaking to Variety’s The Big Ticket podcast, the star opened up about her own mental health and how she related to the role. Guerrero explained that she thoroughly understands the manic emotions that her character goes through, saying that she often describes herself as “crazy.”

“It’s like, ‘Of course I’m doing this role. It’s because I am’ — and this is a word I used to use to apply to myself — ‘I am crazy’. I know what all of these emotions mean and I know what these emotions are on a heightened level.”

Doom Patrol star Diane Guerrero also revealed that her work on the second season pushed her to return to therapy, noting that it was the right time to do so. She explained that as a society we should normalize discussing trauma and mental health so they can be used a strength, pointing out that the show helps audiences realize that weaknesses can be used to an advantage.

“I needed to be in therapy anyway. And I just had to go back. The show and the role let me know that it was time. We absolutely have to acknowledge our past — talk about it, normalize it, and use it as our strength, not as our weakness. That’s what the show does. It shows you that our weaknesses can be our greatest strengths.”
