‘Doomsday Clock’ Issue 2 Confirms ‘Invasion!’ Is DC Rebirth Canon

A viral webpage promoting Doomsday Clock has confirmed that the 1988 comic crossover Invasion! actually took place in the post-Rebirth DC Comics universe.

A viral webpage promoting the new DC Comics event Doomsday Clock has seemingly confirmed that the 1988 comic crossover Invasion! actually took place in the post-Rebirth DC Comics universe.

DC continuity has not always been the clearest thing to follow, with reboots occurring periodically in an effort to streamline the stories. The 1986 reboot, Crisis on Infinite Earths, was a popular storyline that dramatically altered the canon for many years. After this reboot, the first major story that dealt with aliens was Invasion!, which told the story of aliens coming to Earth to demand the surrender of the metahumans.

The metagene, the gene that gives metahumans their abilities, was first introduced here, opening the doors for many stories down the line for DC Comics. Now, their latest story, Doomsday Clock, uses the older DC story as a jumping off point.

Both the metagene and the titular Invasion! were mentioned in “The Bulletin,” in this week’s Doomsday Clock #2:

“The metagene, a genetic anomaly found in up to 12% of the human population, was discovered during the Dominator Invasion. This anomaly seems to be a step further from the human fight-or-flight response; when a traumatic or potentially lethal incident occurs, it can trigger the metagene, altering a person’s genetic disposition and causing the development of superhuman abilities.”

Doomsday Clock #2 is available in stores and online today.
