This film is set to star Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. Legendary acquired the film and television rights to Frank Herbert’s novel in November 2016 with Arrival director Denis Villeneuve officially signing on to helm a feature film reboot in February 2017. Villeneuve has described the reboot as a dream project.
The project won’t mark the first time that Dune has received a live-action adaptation. David Lynch directed a Dune film that was released in 1984. It was met with polarizing reviews but has since gained cult status. The 2000 Dune mini-series, meanwhile, remains one of the highest-rated programs on the Sci-Fi channel.
Dune is currently set to be released on Noveber 20th, 2020.
