Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Black Adam’ Aiming To Begin Production In 2020

It has been years since Warner Bros. and DC announced that Dwayne Johnson would star as Shazam villain Black Adam in his own standalone movie. While there has been no movement on the project ever since, it is finally looking like producers have an idea of when they want to start filming.

While speaking with Variety to promote their upcoming film Fighting with My Family, representatives from Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s production company Seven Bucks Productions let it be known that they hope to get Black Adam off the ground in 2020:

“We’re also ramping up a couple big projects like “Black Adam” and our goal is to get that going at the top of 2020. The script is coming along well and we’re in the polishing phase now and are looking to attach the right director to it. A lot of people consider Dwayne a superhero already, so to finally have him play one on screen in the DC universe is a dream for us.”

While we have been hearing similar reports related to Black Adam for a long time, it is nice to know that Dwayne Johnson and company still have their eyes set on making it a reality. The deal is made even sweeter with a specific year targeted for production.

What do you make of this claim? Do you actually believe that the Dwayne Johnson lead Black Adam will start production in 2020? Or are you more of the “I’ll believe it when I see it” mindset? Let us know in the comments below!

Here is a plot synopsis for Shazam!:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.

The film will hit theaters next year on April 5, 2019.
