Early Concept Art Of Groot Reveals A More Humanistic Approach

Charlie Wen, a designer over at Marvel Studios, revealed some early concept art of Groot in Guardians Of The Galaxy showing a much different approach from the movies.

A new image of Groot has surfaced online via Twitter from designer Charlie Wen. Wen is responsible for a lot of the designs throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s recently taken to his Twitter account to show audiences the early designs and concept art for a lot of Marvel characters. One that’s been garnering attention is of Groot and Rocket. The piece shows a more humanistic approach to Groot’s anatomy, as he describes it. Below is the concept art and some thoughts Wen shared on his process making it.

It would have been interesting to see this type of Groot come to life in the movies. Wen credits Groot and Rocket to the success of the Guardians Of The Galaxy films as they are the two most popular characters of the franchise. Since his introduction in the MCU, Groot has been a fan favorite among many. It’s safe to say the design they went with was the right decision. If they had went with this design, perhaps the movie would have came out very different than the one we got. What do you think? Do you like the Groot they went with or the earlier design? Do you think his design would have made a difference in the success of the franchise? Let us know in the comments!

Groot was last seen in Avengers: Infinity War, which is available now on Digital HD, 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD. He is expected to return in Avengers: Endgame, releasing on April 26th, 2019.
