A sequel to Edge Of Tomorrow is in development at Warner Bros. and the studio has found its writer for it in Matthew Robinson, the scribe behind the 2009 comedy The Invention of Lying. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. wants Doug Liman back in the director’s chair for the sequel along with the stars of the first one, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are expected to return for the Edge of Tomorrow sequel but have not yet made deals as they’re waiting to see Robinson’s script. Warner Bros is said to have “high hopes” for his new take. Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally and Masi Oka are producing the project, with Hisashi Sasaki serving as an executive producer.
The first Edge of Tomorrow revolves around an alien invasion of Europe by a species that can psychically travel back in time to gain foresight of the battles they experience. When a public affairs officer (Tom Cruise) finds himself accidentally getting a blood transfusion from one of the aliens, he gains their ability and does what he can to try and stop a trap before it can start.
Edge of Tomorrow grossed $370 million at the worldwide box office against an estimated production budget of $178 million. The Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt-starrer was not a huge success but was met with great reviews upon its release and has gained a strong fanbase over the years.
